Very old Gamay vines on volcanic rock, the level of finesse and elegance is as always Bouju-esque! Dark, cooked berries, silky tannin and a length like the Nile!

Vinification

Lulu 2020 from Justine & Patrick Bouju

Lulu is a single-varietal Gamay from vines up to 80 years old, grown on volcanic soils in Patrick's vineyards in the Puy-de-Dôme. Biodynamically farmed with meticulous manual labour and no machinery, it is aged in amphorae and large wooden barrels after three weeks of whole cluster maceration. Like Patrick, Lulu already has legendary status and it is impossible to imagine the natural wine world without it, totally iconic and yet the wines never seem pretentious. Dark berry with herbs on the nose, reminiscent of wines from the Beaujolais or the northern Rhone, but without any heaviness or opulence. Very exciting, structured and serious on the palate. Smooth mouthfeel with silky tannins. Like all natural wines from Justine & Patrick Bouju, bottled unfiltered and unsulphured.
