Forestrieri

In the picturesque Maremma in the Tuscan hills, the two "Forestrieri's" Dario and Ezequiel vinify the contemporary, modern style of Tuscany: light-footed, full of tension and always true to its origins.

Re-thinking Tuscany: Agricola Forestrieri defines the modern style in Alta Maremma

In the bars of Roccatederighi, non-locals are affectionately referred to as "forestieri". This poetic term unites Dario from Pisa and Ezequiel, who comes from Argentina, who met a few years ago in the picturesque Maremma, in the Tuscan hills. It all started with the revival of old, neglected vineyards.

Amidst the breathtaking mountain scenery of the Alta Maremma, part of the UNESCO-protected hill country, dusty paths wind through fragrant maquis and lead to picturesque chestnut forests - a view far away from the Tuscany clichés with cypress trees.

The variety of geological formations gives this region its special character - from volcanic rocks such as rhyolite and basalt to sandstone, meridian, marl and granite. The numerous small, scattered vineyards, ranging from 200 to 600 metres, provide Agricola Forestrieri with a rich selection of different grape varieties and soils.

The terroir of the Alta Maremma is a treasure trove of diversity

In a world where speed often sets the tone, the two take a conservative path that preserves the essence of Alta Maremma, because vineyards and their terroir are true treasure troves of diversity. In a single row are old vines of Sangiovese, Trebbiano, Malvasia Bianca Toscana, Ciliegiolo, Malvasia Nera, Alicante Nero, Moscato and other rare indigenous varieties - a lively mix, typical of non-intensive land use.

With these elements, Agricola Forestrieri is shaping them into the new, contemporary style of Tuscany. Away from heavy, jam-like wines, towards elegant, delicate wines that open a new chapter for Tuscany, but remain true to its origins.
