Like the idea of a wet stone: sometimes cool, salty, slightly smoky and mostly a tight, grippy texture on the palate. Rather a mouthfeel than aromatics.

Natural wines off the beaten track, full of character and raw wildness

After working for Alice Bouvot at Domaine de l'Ocatavin for years, Maxim set up on his own in 2017, buying microscopic 0.7 hectares planted with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Savagnin, Gamay and Rosette in the small commune of Saint-Cyr-Montmalin, just north of Arbois. After a bumpy start due to the climate, with lots of frost in the first few years, especially in 2017, he founded Domaine Les Barbatruks with Isabelle Delahaye in 2019. In addition to their own vineyards, the two also produce Negocé wines, which they buy from friends and neighbouring winemakers.

Maxim and Isabelle farm the small plots according to biodynamic principles; these are distributed around Arbois and are always interspersed with blue, chalky marl, which gives the wines an incomparable, vibrant acidity and tension that we only know from the Jura. In the cellar, a slow, gentle ageing takes place in used barriques, all wines are bottled without additives and unfiltered. The result are natural wines full of character, wildness, energy and passion, off the beaten track and exactly what we are looking for from this tiny region, which is not a Burgundian Jura, but a unique Jura!

We are proud and happy to be able to offer you the natural wines of Maxim and Isabelle. Due to the extremely low quantities, the wines are limited to one bottle per customer!
