Sauvignon Blanc Grassnitzberg Riff 2022

The Grassnitzberg vineyard is one of the oldest on the Tement estate and has been in the family since the 1950s. The Sauvignon Blanc vines, which are remarkably old—up to 70 years—have very deep roots and ripen very late due to the southeast-facing slope. A Sauvignon Blanc with concentrated terroir power—and all without any excess. We find cool herbal notes, a gripping mouthfeel, and a chalky minerality par excellence that makes this wine one of the best Sauvignons in Austria. Elegantly intense extract, very chalky, and a long-lasting finish. As with all their other wines, Armin and Stefan Tement rely on selective hand-harvesting and gentle aging in large, neutral oak barrels—the Grassnitzberg spent a total of 24 months on the fine lees before being bottled unfiltered and unfined. The precision and delicacy achieved in this wine are a testament to the exceptional quality that this winery has perfected over decades.
