Welschriesling Grünschiefer 2023 from Thomas Straka

Welschriesling is currently experiencing something of a renaissance among young winemakers, with the Thomas Straka winery in Rechnitz in southern Burgenland leading the way. The grapes for the Welschriesling Grünschiefer 2023 grow on crystalline slate soils, which are responsible for the slightly smoky, taut minerality. On the palate, we find juicy apples, tart pears and a delicate phenolic note from the skin contact. The Grünschiefer stands for the modern wine style in Burgenland. Like all of Thomas Straka's natural wines, it is bottled unfiltered with minimal added sulphur.
