Domaine Ganevat: expressive natural wines with a rustic touch
Jean-François Ganevat has undoubtedly made the Jura one of the most fascinating wine regions in the world. His wines are highly sought after and have become vinophile artefacts. Trained by Jean-Marc Morey in Chassagne-Montrachet, he produces energetic, incredibly expressive natural wines with a rustic feel, following the Burgundian model.
Fanfan, as he is fondly called by friends, produces up to 50 individual wines from different grape varieties each year, mostly from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Savagnin, Trousseau, Ploussard and Gamay. The different soils of his micro-parcels around Rotalier consist of calcareous marl, gravel and slate soils.
Ganevat works meticulously in the vineyard and follows a biodynamic approach to work in the cellar free of technology and chemistry. No place for chemical encroachment or superficial manipulation; what counts here is the pure essence of the grape.
