The Schmitt's passion stands for quality, nature and innovation

The declared goal of Bianka and Daniel Schmitt is to make great wines that are as natural as possible. As natural wine pioneers in conventional Rheinhessen, the young couple is embarking on a journey full of challenges: Breaking down encrusted conventions of the mass-producing region, discovering the actual terroir potential and trial-and-error of new and own paths.

But Bianka and Daniel are brimming with courage and conviction, for their dedication and vision are being rewarded: their wonderfully refreshing, funky and multi-layered wines are now enjoying great popularity internationally, as in Copenhagen, London, Paris and Berlin!

A Biodynamic German-Hungarian Story of Success

Bianka is originally from Hungary, while Daniel is the third generation of the family farm, which the couple took over in 2012. The Schmitt's farm 17 hectares biodynamically and thus produce pure natural wine, even if they are reluctant to use the term "natural wine" themselves. That is up to everyone.

As a Demeter-certified winery, they typically work by hand: wines are fermented spontaneously and aged in used oak barrels and amphorae. They do not use any additives or fining, nor do they use fine filtration. Sulphur is also only used in very small quantities when individually deemed necessary.

Many of their wines are already fascinating - we are curious to see what else is to come!
