Where does Müller Thurgau come from?

Müller-Thurgau is a white grape variety that is mainly grown in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It is one of the most widely cultivated grape varieties in Germany and is known for its fresh and fruity nature.

Müller-Thurgau is an artificial cross between Riesling and Madeleine Royale, which was developed in 1882 by the Swiss viticulture pioneer Hermann Müller in Thurgau, Switzerland. It was one of the first results of systematic breeding of grape varieties and quickly spread throughout Europe.

Where is Müller Thurgau grown?

In Germany, Müller-Thurgau is mainly found in the Franconia, Rheinhessen and Palatinate regions. In Austria, the variety is mainly cultivated in Burgenland. It is also cultivated in Switzerland, the Czech Republic and other parts of Europe. However, it has also made a name for itself in other parts of the world, such as New Zealand and the USA.

On which soils and in which climate does Müller Thurgau grow particularly well?

Müller Thurgau grows best on light and well-drained soils, such as sandy and loamy weathered soils. A warm and sunny climate is ideal for the variety, as it needs plenty of light and warmth to reach full ripeness. However, it prefers cooler regions, such as those along the Rhine and Danube rivers in Germany and Austria. The variety also thrives in cooler climates such as New Zealand and the USA.

What does Müller Thurgau taste like?

Müller Thurgau has a characteristic fruity aroma with notes of apples, citrus fruits and peach. The flavour is often juicy and fresh, with an appealing acidity and a slight spiciness. Flavours of apricots and almonds are also often present. The wine usually has a rather low alcohol content and low acidity, but it is still refreshing and pleasant in flavour.

What dishes does Müller Thurgau go well with?

Müller Thurgau is a versatile wine that goes well with a wide range of dishes. It goes well with fish and seafood dishes, white meats such as chicken and poultry, as well as light vegetarian dishes. Its fine fruitiness and appealing acidity also make it ideal with Asian dishes and light starters. It is also ideal as an aperitif or to enjoy with light starters. It is a popular choice for gourmets and wine connoisseurs and its freshness and pleasant nature make it an ideal choice for special occasions and special dishes.
