Saint Jean du Barroux: the shooting star from Provenence
Philippe Gimel is a passionate winemaker, and you can taste that very clearly. In the vineyard, he strives for careful manual work and relies on grape varieties typical of the region such as Syrah, Cinsault, Carignan and Grenache.
It was none other than his foster father Claude Gouan who advised him to buy the excellent vineyards around Barroux. Near Mont Ventoux, a large mountain in Provenance, Philippe Gimel cultivates a total of 40 mini-plots divided over 12.5 hectares, producing extremely terroir-influenced wines with concentrated fruit on clay soils from grape varieties typical of the region with enormous yield reductions, which are very reminiscent of great Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines, because they are bursting with power, aromatics and spice.
