Legionär Sauvignon Blanc 2021

100% Sauvignon Blanc from 20-year-old vines on poor slate soils and coming from biodynamic cultivation. Karl works extremely meticulously, biodyn and manual labour in the extreme, harvesting in early October, strictly selecting and processing only the best grape material. Spontaneous fermentation in open vats with manual pigeage and 30 days of maceration, then aged for 12 months in used barriques. An extremely elegant orange wine, this is funk, but purist, jazzy funk. Spice with caramel, apricots with dried fruit, brutally taut and mineral on the palate with the finest tannins, everything wonderfully in balance. The slate soil lends a vibrant precision and the aromatics of the Sauvignon are completely reduced, the wine is rather dominated by the soil aromas. Bottled by hand in small batches, unfiltered and without sulphur. Karl Schnabel's natural wines are purist ambassadors of their terroir and a flagship for natural wines from Styria.
