Chenas En Perelles 2023

En Perelles comes from old Gamay vines rooted in a formerly water-bearing gravel and sand bed in the Chénas appellation. The vines are organically farmed and harvested strictly by hand before the grapes - all whole bunches - undergo a gentle semi-carbonic fermentation in concrete vats for eight days. After pressing, the must ferments spontaneously and matures for nine months in used 228-liter pièces and concrete, without fining or filtration; a touch of sulphur is added just before bottling. In the glass, the Gamay natural wine shines a clear cherry red and exudes a Burgundy-like aroma of peony, pink grapefruit and wild strawberry. On the palate, En Perelles displays wafer-thin tannins and a salty precision that drives the drinking flow and ends in a long, feather-light finish. A Beaujolais that dances between elegance and energy and goes just as well with charcuterie or grilled duck breast as it does on its own on a warm evening. Like all natural wines from Domaine Obora, it is bottled unfiltered.
