Welschriesling is banging: Elegant, taut and multi-layered with a fine herbal spiciness and delicate smooth mouthfeel. Thomas Straka shows what the grape variety is capable of.

Vinification

Welschriesling Rechnitz 2021 from Thomas Straka

Old Welschriesling vines on crystalline slate give the wine great precision and minerality. Spontaneously fermented and matured for one year in 500 litre wooden barrels on the lees, then bottled unfiltered and with a small amount of sulphur added. In the glass, there is a good portion of ripe, yellow fruit and a slight smokiness from the slate soil, supported by a fresh, juicy acidity. The 2021 Welschriesling Rechnitz is multi-layered with a fine herbal flavour on the palate: Thomas Straka shows what the grape variety is capable of and conjures up the modern Welschriesling style in the bottle.
