Francesco produces two different styles of wine. The first, made from bought-in grapes, matures briefly in steel tanks and stands for freshness and liveliness. His Trebbiano d'Abruzzo impresses with its brightness and salty notes, while the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is balanced and refreshingly tart.
"The power of wine to bring people together fascinates me", explains Francesco Cirelli. "With wine you get to know people. There are no borders or political differences."
The grapes from the estate's own vineyard, on the other hand, are all matured in amphorae and have a completely different characteristic. The Trebbiano d'Abruzzo is complex, with different dimensions and a more intense texture, while the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is structured, youthfully fresh, but also with the potential to mature.
For us, Francesco Cirelli is the new discovery of the year, waking the sleepy Abruzzo region from its slumber with his mineral Pecorino, Trebbiano and Montepulciano.
