Vinification

Riesling 120 N.N. 2023 from Odinstal

This Riesling comes from lower vineyards in the Odinstal, at around 120 meters above sea level, with chalky, barren soils. Manual harvesting, biodynamic cultivation and meticulous selection are standard. Mastermind Andreas Schumann relies on spontaneous fermentation, very low levels of sulphur and long yeast storage, which gives the wine a delicate texture. Aromatically, the Riesling reveals quince, Amalfi lemon, fresh hay and a cool herbaceousness that is almost reminiscent of eucalyptus. On the palate, it is slightly oxidative in style, yet clear and precise in its fruit - between green apple, pear and fine spice. An exciting, unconventional Riesling with enormous freshness. Like all natural wines from Odinstal, bottled unfiltered.

In the 1990s, it was unimaginable to make wine so high up in the Palatinate. However, in times of climate change, the Odinstal vineyard, which sits 350 meters above the town of Wachenheim, is set to make history.
