The VDP Grand Cru on the Roter Hang in Nierstein is the epitome of finesse, charm, and electrifying freshness. 100% Riesling from 40-year-old vines, rooted in iron-rich clay-schist, cultivated biodynamically according to Demeter standards. Hand-harvested in several meticulous passes to ensure perfect ripeness, foot-crushed, 12 hours of maceration, gently pressed, spontaneously fermented in 600-liter barrels, bottled in May 2026. Jule and Kai Schätzel harvest early and halt fermentation even earlier—a bold, almost defiant move. The result: just 7% alcohol, but a risk that pays off.
