Unrefined gold in liquid form: the natural wines of Bozidar Zorjan from Stajerska
Bozidar Zorjan, the policeman turned natural wine producer who presses pure, unrefined gold. In Lower Styria, also known as Stajerska, where rolling hills meet deep forests, Bozo started making amphora wine back in the 1980s, then gradually became more radical and is now firmly convinced that you can't be a biodyn winemaker if you don't have animals on the farm.
His wine cellar is a 300-year-old descendant of the nearby Žička kartuzija Abbey, where his wines are aged for up to 3 years before being released on the market. Amber revolution! Bozo's wines are fermented as whole bunches in amphorae for one year and then matured for a further two years in amphorae or in barrels in the cellar. The result is highly complex, silky fine orange wines that are bursting with vital energy.
