Felsen I - Blaufränkisch 2025

100% Blaufränkisch from a barren slate plot on the Leithaberg, meticulously cultivated by hand using biodynamic methods. The 65-year-old vines benefit from a light, steady breeze that blends the coolness of the forest with the warmth of the sun, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly. Here, too, Tschida uses a double-tier trellising system to encourage maximum competition among the vines, causing them to dig deep into the slate. Hand-harvested into small crates, spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, and aging in large, used wooden barrels with no new wood. No fining, no filtering, minimal sulfur added at bottling. Felsen I is the antithesis of the clichéd Burgenland red wine: no extraction for extraction’s sake, no show of power. Tschida has completely disarmed the Blaufränkisch. Instead, ethereal concentration, silky tannins with delicate, juicy cherry fruit. Precision instead of volume. Depth instead of intensity. Incredible length that lingers long after the last sip.
