Furmint on basalt, that's like Riesling on slate, a perfect combination. Full of energy with a delicate grip and considerable length. Ethereal, smoky, unique. Be sure to decant!

Vinification

Furmint 2022 from Kolonia 52

Furmint on basalt, it's like Riesling on slate, it vibrates with tension. Annamaria and Attila cultivate the parcel using natural synergetic methods, all by meticulous manual labour. After careful manual harvesting, the grapes are pressed in a small, electric vertical press and then matured in used barrels from Champagne and Austria. It is immediately smoky in the glass, a quasi trademark of the volcanic basalt. Fresh, animating and with a slight grip. Mineral, lean and with a lovely flow. There is a hint of brioche alongside ripe apples. Vegetal, minimally oxidative in appearance, Furmint is so incredibly multi-faceted and puts a grin on our faces. Like all natural wines from Kolonia 52, unfiltered and bottled without sulphur.

Annamaria and Attila are the creative minds behind Kolònia 52, breathing vinophile life into the Hungarian dragon legend of Szent György-hegy. On volcanic basalt, not far from Lake Balaton, they create energising natural wines where legends are not just told, but tasted!
