Our take

Very old Gamay vines on volcanic rock in the Puy-de-Dôme in the Auvergne. The level of finesse and elegance is, as always, Bouju-esque! Dark, cooked berries, silky tannins and a length like the Nile!

Vinification

Lulu 2022 by Patrick Bouju

Lulu is a pure Gamay from vines up to 80 years old that grow on volcanic soils on the Puy-de-Dôme in Patrick's vineyards. Biodynamic cultivation with careful manual labor and without any machinery, aged in amphorae and large wooden barrels after three weeks of whole-cluster maceration. Like Patrick, Lulu 2022 already has legendary status and has become an integral part of the natural wine world, totally iconic and yet the wines never seem pretentious. Dark berries with herbs on the nose, reminiscent of wines from Beaujolais or the northern Rhone, but without any heaviness or opulence. Very exciting, structured and serious on the palate. Smooth mouthfeel with silky tannins. Like all natural wines from Justine & Patrick Bouju, bottled unfiltered and unsulphurized.
