A dark and earthy trip between currants, forest aromas and very fine-grained tannins. Everything’s coherent and wonderfully integrated - Franz Weninger is a virtuoso, a top-class Cabernet Franc!

Clear, bright natural wines with a rather classic aroma spectrum.
Vinification

Frettner Cabernet Franc 2016 from Weninger

The vineyards are located on the Hungarian side of the winery near Sopron, here the Cabernet Franc grows on hummus-rich, limestone soils near an oak forest, which provides proper cooling in the summer and thus allows the grapes to ripen longer. After the strictly selective hand harvest, the wine ferments for 14 days on the skins in wooden fermentation racks, and then ages for 2 years in 500-liter wooden barrels - time and patience are Franz Weninger's top priorities. Unfiltered and bottled with minimal sulfur addition. Franz presses here a single-varietal Cabernet Franc of the top class, we find earthy and vegetal aromas reminiscent of forest soils, grasses and also mushrooms. The tannins are extremely fine-grained and wonderfully integrated. We recommend a longer aerationfor a full development.
