Our take

Furmint on gneiss and mica schist, this has pressure and electrifies! Lightly creamy with ripe, yellow fruit aromas that are countered with wonderful freshness.

Vinification

Stein Furmint 2021 from Weninger

The east-facing Steiner Furmint vineyards are among one of the best in Hungary near Sopron, on the south-western shore of Lake Neusiedl. Planted in 1964, it once belonged to the Church of Hungary and covers a total of about 10 hectares; viticulture has been practised here for about 400 years. The Furmint here is rooted very deeply on gneiss and mica schist with warm, dry soils, which gives the wine a ripe, golden aroma, but due to its freshness it never appears lush. Aged for 11 months in 500-litre wooden barrels, then unfiltered and bottled only as necessary with minimal sulphur added. Franz Weninger stands for delicacy par excellence, and this is skilfully demonstrated with the Steiner Furmint 2021.
