Vinification

El Carner 2023 from Domaine Matassa

El Carner is a cuvée of Macabeu and Grenache Gris - the vines grow at around 600 meters above sea level on limestone with a high iron content. After 2 weeks of maceration and spontaneous fermentation, the natural wine is left to mature on the lees in small concrete tanks (2,000 liters). Like all natural wines at Matassa, no sulphur or other additives are added; the focus here is on the work in the vineyard, and this is skillfully implemented. El Carner 2023 is one of Tom's wildest wines, which demands time and patience.

Matassa is Catalan and means thicket of a natural forest. Winemaker Tom Lubbe is one of the most progressive advocates of biodynamics and is regarded as an absolute visionary who has achieved cult status within two decades with his Matassa vineyard in Languedoc-Roussillon.
