Our take

Like a sunset in a glass: bright red berries dance across the tongue with a hint of fizz, followed by a delicate herbal spice. With hardly any tannins, but all the more juiciness, Olla Rouge is Matassa's dancing entry!

Vinification

Olla Rouge 2024 from Domaine Matassa

Tom Lubbe's red entry-level cuvée from the Grenache Noir, Grenache Gris and Macabeu varieties. The very old vines grow on poor, calcareous clay at 500 - 650 m above sea level. The yields are very low (20 hl/ha), after a very short maceration period, the Olla Rouge is gently pressed and spontaneously fermented and matured with indigenous yeasts in concrete. Like all natural wines at Matassa, no sulphur or other additives are added; the focus here is entirely on the work in the vineyard, which is skillfully implemented biodynamically. The Olla Rouge 2024 is a glou-glou natural wine with a twist and perfect for sharing!

Matassa is Catalan and means thicket of a natural forest. Winemaker Tom Lubbe is one of the most progressive advocates of biodynamics and is considered an absolute visionary who has achieved cult status with his Matassa vineyard in Languedoc-Roussillon within two decades.
