Vinification

Koregg Blaufränkisch 2020 from Karl Schnabel

100% Blaufränkisch from 20-year-old vines on poor slate soils from the Koregg site at 520m above sea level. Karl works extremely meticulously, biodyn and manual labour in extreme form, harvesting is done in early October, strictly selecting and processing only the best grape material. Spontaneous fermentation in open vats with manual pigeage and 30 days of maceration, then aged for 21 months in used barriques. The Koregg Blaufränkisch 2020 is the mineral king, as Karl Schnabel says himself. Not as fat or intense as some from Burgenland, but always lean, elegant and lightfooted. The barren slate soil lends a vibrant precision, and this Blaufränkisch is Champions League in a natural context. Bottled by hand in small batches, unfiltered and without sulphur. Karl Schnabel's natural wines are purist ambassadors of their terroir and a flagship for natural wines from Styria.
